The 45 year-old man who, at one time, offered 40 goats and 20 cows to marry former US President Bill Clinton's daughter was killed by a stray elephant on Friday while taking pictures of it
A police spokesperson confirmed the incident saying that Godwin
Chepkurgor, a freelance journalist and ex-councillor was taking
photographs of the stray elephants when one of them attacked him from
behind and trampled him.
The incident happened barely three days after the Kenya Wildlife
Serve warned residents to keep off the elephants and stop roaming at
night. In 2000 Chepkurgor wrote to then-president Bill Clinton through Kenya’s foreign minister, offering 40 goats and 20 cows for Chelsea Clinton’s hand in marriage which, according to him, was Kalenjin custom.
He claimed that the letter sparked security checks on him and his family and was summoned for a meeting at the Foreign Ministry in Nairobi, which he missed. He also said that his first wife gave her consent to his proposal.
In 2009, Hillary Rodham Clinton promised to convey the “very kind offer” to her daughter.
